After leaving Nuoro at 7AM we arrived at Cannigione at about 9.30 having had a quick coffee break just outside Olbia. The first island we visited was La Maddalena, the largest of the group of islands, and we had about an hour and a quarter to have a look around the town there which on first impressions seemed the ideal place to spend a holiday beside the sea. It looked a very attractive place and it seemed a shame that we had no time to explore the island further.

Our next stop after La Maddalena was Santa Maria which was practically deserted at the point where we disembarked for another hour. We did go for a little walk on the island but the path didn't seem to lead anywhere so most of us went back on board the boat after a little while and we all had lunch together. Nevertheless, I was struck by the wild beauty of the place.

The last island we visited was Spargi which was also pretty deserted but it was quite fun walking around the beach, watching the tiny fish seeking the warmer water and my brother-in-law Mariano trying to save the jellyfish that had been washed up on the sands!

There was also an intermittent commentary on the boat so we got to hear and see all about the other islands that we didn't actually set foot on. Much of the water in those parts has an emerald green colour, hence the name of Costa Smeralda. All in all it was a wonderful day out and there was quite a sing-song on the coach returning to Nuoro so it was fun from the first minute to the last!
Una gita all'Arcipelago della Maddalena
Fino a pochi giorni fa non avevo mai visitato il gruppo di
isole a nord della Costa Smeralda si chiama L’Arcipelago della Maddalena. Però,
tutto è cambiato venerdì primo maggio, una festa in Italia, quando io e Maria
Rita siamo andati con un gruppo di circa quaranta persone per una gita in
pullman da Nuoro a Cannigione dove siamo saliti su una barca ed abbiamo fatto
un tour intorno alle isole.

Siamo partiti da Nuoro alle sette del mattino e siamo
arrivati a Cannigione circa alle nove e mezzo dopo una pausa per un caffè
vicino a Olbia. La prima isola che abbiamo visitato è stata La Maddalena, la
più grande, ed abbiamo fatto un giro in città per un oretta. La mia prima
impressione è stata quella che la cittadina fosse un posto ideale per una
vacanza al mare. Aveva un look molto bello ed è stato un peccato che non abbiamo
passato più tempo lì.
Santa Maria era la prossima fermata e questa isola sembrava
quasi abbandonata al punto dove siamo sbarcati. Abbiamo fatto una breve
passeggiata ma il sentiero non ci portava da nessun parte. La maggior parte di
noi è tornata indietro ed abbiamo pranzato tutti insieme a bordo della barca. Comunque
ero colpito dalla bellezza selvaggia del posto.
Spargi è stata l’ultima isola che abbiamo visitato. Anche
Spargi sembrava un po’ abbandonata ma è stato abbastanza divertente camminare
in spiaggia e guardare i pesciolini cercare l’acqua più calda mentre mio
cognato Mariano provava a salvare le meduse arrivate a riva!
C’era anche una guida in barca e quindi abbiamo sentito
molte notizie delle altre isole su cui non abbiamo messo piede. La maggior
parte dell’acqua in questa zona ha un colore verde smeraldo per cui si chiama Costa
Smeralda. Tutto sommato è stata una gita meravigliosa e tutti cantavano in
pullman quando tornavamo a Nuoro e quindi è stato divertente dal primo momento
fino all’ultimo.
