Vivo in Sardegna da quasi quattro anni adesso e naturalmente non posso passare tutto il mio tempo esplorando l'isola come fossi in vacanza. Mi ha fatto molto piacere qui a Nuoro diventare un tipo di avventore in alcuni degli ottimi bar. Come sa ogni visitatore regolare in Italia i bar italiani non sono come i pub inglesi ed i clienti pobabilmente bevono più caffè che alcool. E poi ci sono gli aperitivi, i digestivi, i gelati con molti gusti meravigliosi, gli spuntini molto gustosi e cosi via. Comunque, questi sono i nostri bar preferiti dove ci trattono più come amici che clienti:-

This is one of the most popular bars in Nuoro and it's easy to see why. Lovely ambience inside and outside with a very quick service and an extremely courteous bar staff. It was a favourite haunt of the Nuorese writer Salvatore Satta, who mentions it in his highly acclaimed novel Il giorno del guidizio (The Day of Judgement) which has been translated into about eighteen languages, including English (although I believe the English translation is out of print now). One of the most interesting features inside the bar is a bookcase full of different editions and translations of his book. There's also a very attractive fresco, on the part of the ceiling by the entrance to the bar, which has to be seen but can easily be missed.
Questo bar è uno dei bar più popolari a Nuoro ed è facile capire perchè. Una bella atmosfera dentro e fuori, un servizio veloce ed i camerieri sono molto cortesi. E' stato il posto preferito dello scrittore Salvatore Satta che ne ha parlato nel suo romanzo Il giorno del giudizio che è tradotto in circa diciotto lingue, anche in inglese (però credo che la traduzione inglese sia fuori produzione). Una cosa particolare dentro il bar è una libreria delle edizioni e traduzioni diverse di questo romanzo. C'è anche un affresco molto bello e antico sul soffito vicino all'ingresso al bar.

We've got into the habit of coming here after we go to the gym twice a week. Recently extended and whatever you might order here is presented with incomparable style. I've said more than once here, jokingly, that I wasn't sure that I could drink something that looked like a true work of art! An extraordinary range of different flavoured teas and hot chocolates is available; well worth trying when the weather isn't too hot. And there's a large range of refreshing aperitivos, ice creams and excellent wine for when the weather is a bit warmer.
Abbiamo l'abitudine di venire qui dopo essere andati alla palestra due volte alla settimana. E' ingrandito recentemente e tutto quello che si ordina qui arriva a tavola in grande stile. Ho detto più di una volta che non ero sicuro se volevo bere un'opera d'arte! C'è una vasta gamma di tè saporiti e le cioccolate calde che sono ideali quando il tempo non è caldo. E ci sono molti aperitivi rinfrescanti, i gelati ed il buon vino per quando il tempo è caldo.

Situated in a small square where Via Solferino and Via Corso Garibaldi meet, a very cosy bar where some splendid snacks are served along with the usual range of delightful beverages and where you're guaranteed a very tasty antipasta along with your evening aperitivo. Run by two friends, originally from Nuoro, who worked in the bar business in Dublin for a considerable time and as a result they speak very good English. Very useful in the bar business on the continent, especially if you want to attract tourists!
E' situato in una piazzetta tra Via Solferino e Via Corso Garibaldi ed è un bar molto comodo dove servono buonissimi spuntini e la solita gamma delle ottime bevande. Inoltre, di solito c'è un antipasto molto gustoso con l'aperitivo della serata. E' gestito da due amici che sono di Nuoro ma tutti e due hanno lavorato nei bar a Dublino per un lungo periodo. Di consequenza parlano inglese molto bene e questo è molto utile nei bar in Europa, soprattutto se si vuole fare affari con i turisti.

Just a stone's throw away from Caffè Tettamanzi, this is a very popular bar with young people and tourists. It has a fairly large open space right outside the front of the bar which is great for sitting outside in the open during the summer. Inside there are some wonderful wall murals of music legends John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Elvis Presley, along with some of their most famous words translated into Italian. Nuoro can be a bit dead on Sundays, with nearly all the shops and most of the bars closed, but Bar Nuovo is always open. Hence it usually does very good trade Sunday lunchtimes when a lot of us like to drink an aperitivo before returning home for lunch.
E' molto vicino al Caffè Tettamanzi e molto popolare con i giovani ed i turisti. C'è un spazio aperto abbastanza grande davanti all'ingresso del bar, ideale quando ci piace sederci fuori all'aperto in estate. Dentro ci sono dei bei murales dei miti musicali John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix ed Elvis Presley con alcune delle loro parole più famose tradotte in Italiano. Nuoro può essere un pò morto la domenica quando quasi tutti i negozi ed il novanta percento dei bar sono chiusi. Però, il Bar Nuovo è sempre aperto e quindi fa molti affari all'ora di pranzo la domenica quando molti di noi piace bere un aperitivo prima di pranzare a casa.

Another bar in Via Corso Garibaldi and another bar which is open on Sundays when most of the other bars are closed. Very pleasant interior and a very friendly staff who always bring you service with a smile.
Un'altro bar in Via Corso Garibaldi e un altro bar che è aperto la domenica. Dentro c'è un décor molto piacevole, i camerieri sono molto amichevoli e c'è sempre un servizio con un sorriso.

This bar is still fairly central but a little bit off the beaten track. However, it provides an experience well worth enjoying with the decor, as you might expect from the name of the bar, displaying a naval theme throughout. It's rather like a small version of a pub I used to frequent fairly regularly in Bristol, The Ship in Park Row. We're very fond of coming here late on Saturday evenings, after dinner, in order to enjoy a digestivo or two.
Questo bar è abbastanza centrale ma è un pò più difficile da trovare. Però, ci dà una bell'esperienza con un tema navale che illumina il décor dentro. Mi ricorda di una versione piccola di un pub dove andavo piùttosto spesso a Bristol che si chiama The Ship in Park Row. Ci piace venire qui tardi il sabato sera per un digestivo dopo cena.

Something of a new discovery for us, this bar is very close to the Cathedral, la cattedrale di Santa Maria della Neve, in Piazza Palestro and lives up to its name because, from the open terrace at the back of the bar, there is a stunning view of Monte Ortobene and the valley between Nuoro and the mountain. Very relaxed atmosphere and it doesn't appear to have been discovered by tourists yet. An ideal place for a quiet aperitivo.
Per noi questo bar è una scoperta abbastanza recente. E' in Piazza Palestro molto vicino al duomo. Si chiama Bar Bellavista perchè c'è una vista assolutamente bellissima dalla terrazza in fondo al bar. Da li si puo vedere il panorama magnifico del Monte Ortobene e la valle tra Nuoro ed il monte. Ha una atmosfera molto rilassante e non è ancora scoperto dai turisti. E' un posto ideale per bere un aperitivo con calma.

A favourite of ours early in the morning just before Maria Rita starts work at the Post Office on the other side of the square. As soon as we walk in my cappuccino and her caffè macchiato are prepared and ready for us when we sit down, without even a word being exchanged. Now there's service for you!
Ci piace andare qui prestissimo la mattina prima di quando Maria Rita inizia al lavoro all'ufficio postale dall'altra parte della piazza. Quando entriamo il mio cappuccino ed il suo caffè macchiato sono già preparati e pronti per noi quando ci sediamo. Che servizio!

This bar is actually situated in the basement below the central Post Office in Piazza Crispi although the entrance is just to the side of the building in Via Dante. Very popular with the Post Office staff and very friendly atmosphere where everyone seems to know each other. Extremely good prices for both drinks and snacks.
Questo bar è situato nel seminterrato sotto l'ufficio postale centrale in Piazza Crispi. Però l'entrata è al lato del palazzo in Via Dante. E' molto popolare con i lavoratori dell'ufficio postale e c'è una atmosfera molto amichevole dove tutti sembrano conoscersi. I prezzi sono buoni per i drink e per gli spuntini.

There are also quite a lot of decent bars in Via la Marmora but we tend not to go that end of central Nuoro so often for our evening aperitivo.
